Markleen’s Ecosorb® sorbent booms came to the rescue once again at a major oil spill, this time in southern Norway.
The “MV Full City”, a bulk cargo carrier bearing 1000 tons of heavy bunker oil and 120 tons of marine diesel oil, grounded near the town of Langesund in the early hours of Friday July 31st 2009 and immediately began leaking oil into the sea.
Within hours of the accident occurring, Markleen received the alarm call from AllMaritim, who exclusively market Markleen’s Ecosorb® range of sorbents in Norway, and immediately stepped up production of sorbent booms to cope with the sudden demand. So far Markleen have supplied some 27,000 m of sorbent booms for use in the clean-up operations, but at the time of writing operations are still ongoing, so this figure may increase.
According to the Norwegian Coastguard, who are coordinating efforts to limit the pollution and reduce its consequences, some 212 tons of oil emulsions have been recovered so far.
