The Port Authority of Vilagarcía de Arousa (Spain) has just awarded an oil spill response equipment supply contract to Markleen.
The equipment, which will be delivered by the end of 2008, will complement existing means of oil spill response, and consists of 500 m of inflatable containment boom supplied on two reels and a Foilex weir skimmer, as well as all necessary operating equipment and accessories.
All means are easily transportable and compatible, meaning that they may be loaned to other bodies such as the autonomous government or the Coast Guard in the event of a major catastrophe.
The new oil spill response equipment will complement and improve on equipment already held as part of the Internal Contingency Plan for Accidental Marine Pollution which was recently approved by the Port Authority of Vilagarcía’s Board of Directors.
During the Port Authority’s Board meeting held on November 13th, Chairman Javier Gago explained that the Port’s new oil spill response acquisition now makes it one of Spain’s most privileged Ports of General Interest.
